Meet Pastor Emeritus Joe D. Johnson

Pastor Joe Dean Johnson faithfully served as the pastor of Riceville for the past 42 years. During his tenure, the church and community have benefited tremendously both spiritually and figuratively. Pastor Johnson was a deacon before he was called to preach at New Hope Baptist Church under the late Pastor E. W. Cooper in Stafford, TX. Six months after accepting his call to the Gospel ministry, Pastor Johnson was called to pastor at Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Keegans Bayou, where he has been a mainstay to the Southwest Houston Community for the past Forty - Plus years. He was installed as the pastor the 1st Sunday in August, 1967.
Pastor Johnson has shown tremendous dedication and leadership while serving as Pastor of Riceville. Through divine guidance, prayers and continued support, Pastor Johnson’s vision to build a bigger Riceville became a reality on December 8, 2002, when the new church building construction was completed. Under his leadership, the church grew from a structure that seated 300 parishioners to an edifice that can accommodate over 1500 members and guests. In addition, the church is looking to implement the phase II component of the building process in the near future.
Pastor Johnson is an anointed bible lecturer who strongly believes the Word of God which he preaches and teaches with power. He is known as the "Preacher's Preacher" for his knowledge of the Holy Scripture. Pastor Johnson has retired to the position of Pastor Emeritus at Riceville as of September 1, 2009 and in doing so has moved into another phase of his fascinating career. Pastor Johnson has inspired and helped many people and his legacy will continue for years to come because of the tutelage he has given to other ministers. He is truly a great visionary and leader who will tell you that most importantly " I'm a Man of God Serving the Almighty".
