Minister of Music
Elder Eric B. Davis
Elder Eric B. Davis
Elder Eric B. Davis is the youngest son of Houston's own Linda Davis Gibbs and the late Ray Lee Davis Jr. It has been said that Davis began singing before he could talk, and he started playing piano at the age of 7. The beginning of his call to gospel music was inspired by his Godfather; the late-great Carl Preacher, who allowed him to turn on the organ’s Leslie Switch at age 2 every Sunday.
Minister Davis has always held a love of gospel choirs and a passion
for directing them. For enjoyment, he would gather all household
dominoes and set them up like a choir stand, and checkers were set
up like the choir while listening to "church" music. His passion for
music continued to grow as he grew up in the Christian Hope Baptist
Church.
Elder Davis is a proud graduate of Jack Yates Senior High School
where he was a member of the band and was often called upon to
produce music and to sing for special occasions.
Elder Davis has, even as a child, experienced many of life’s storms,
but has used every storm as fuel to go deeper into his call to music
ministry. He possesses an extremely contagious energetic gift;
anyone around can't help but join in with him.
Minister Davis contributes the success of his priceless gift to
several people who have inspired him through the years: Carl B.
Preacher, Shirley Joiner, Mary Oliver, Olander Draper, Lawrence
Ingram, Phyllis Kennedy, V. Michael McKay, and last but not least,
Ricky Dillard. He has directed and shared the stage with several
world-renown artists as Olanda Draper, Ricky Dillard, Shirley
Ceasar, Beverly Crawford, Sheri Moffet, Shawn McLemore, Rosalyn
Brunswick-McDuffie, Kim Burrell, Patti LaBelle, Richard Smallwood,
and a host of others.
He was called to preach in 1996, which richly elevated his music
ministry to “another level”. He was ordained in the Church Of God In
Christ (COGIC) faith as an Elder in 2009.
Elder Davis has served as Minister of Music at various churches in
and around the Houston area:
· New Peaceful Rest Baptist Church
· Trinity Fellowship Church- Choir Director
· Higher Dimension Church
· Palace of Praise Church
· Jericho City COGIC
· Borden Chapel Baptist Church, Beaumont, TX.
· Saint Peter Baptist Church, Beaumont, TX.
Elder Davis is the father of three beautiful children Erin Alicia,
Eric Bernard II, and Evin Renee Davis; all of which are involved and
musically inclined. He is currently a member of the Love and Liberty
Fellowship Church, Pastor Kim Burrell. He currently serves as
Minister of Music at Riceville Mount Olive Baptist Church where
Terry Eugene Mackey is Senior Pastor.
Elder Davis always exudes a spirit of excellence. Whether it is
vocal training, choir rehearsals, music lessons or band directing,
his main message is… “Don’t conform to the atmosphere; set the
atmosphere”.
His love for God, his musical gift and having church is evident when you meet him and experience his ministry. Davis firmly believes that Music Ministry is the main artery to his life; without it he would die.
